Working with this house
This house is made by a pack rather than a production line. Almost everything you can see or hear in a Hounds & Jackals project was made by somebody who was paid for it and is named for it: illustrators, composers, vocalists, mixing engineers, cartographers, layout designers and video editors, scattered across a great many countries.
If that is work you would want, there are four ways in.
I. Use something of ours in your own work
If you wish to make or publish something based on Hounds & Jackals material, there is a free community content kit that makes you a Friend of the Pack. Take what is useful, credit it in a line, and go. There is no paperwork and nothing else applies to you.
II. Be a first reader
Every piece of work here eventually needs somebody who has never seen it. That is the one thing a house cannot do for itself, and a person can only read something for the first time once.
It is not editing. Nobody is asking you to fix a sentence. What is wanted is what happened in your head: where you got lost, where you skimmed, where you put it down.
III. Make something with us
Every project goes to the person whose work actually suits it, rather than being bent to one house look. What that means for you is edges rather than instructions: here is the world, here is the register, here is what it must never become, and everything inside that is yours.
Nothing starts large. Before either of us commits to something long we do one contained piece together, a single illustration rather than a set of twenty, one track rather than an album. A small first piece is how both of us find out whether this works, and none of that can be known in advance.
You are paid what was agreed, when it was agreed, and your name goes where people can see it. What else you can expect, and what is asked back, is in the Pact of the Pack.
IV. Help with your own opus
If what you want is my hands on a project of your own rather than something made with this house, that is a door too. Working With Me explains what I bring, what I am good at, and how to start a conversation.
What is written down
Friends of the Pack is the free sharing kit: the credit line, the mark, and the four things asked in return.
First Reader is the invitation, and the sheet that goes with it.
The Pact of the Pack is what you can expect here, what is asked back, and what happens if it stops working. Written to be read by you rather than kept behind a desk.
Working With Me is what I may bring to a project of your own.
